Dr. Mark Albion is a serial education entrepreneur, married to Joy for thirty years with two grown daughters. His personal mission is to help the next generation find their path of service, using their gifts to create a more peaceful world of economic and social justice. As a student, professor and administrator at Harvard for 20 years, he was profiled by 60 Minutes and named the "savior of b-school souls." At Harvard College, he taught industrial organization and managerial economics while guiding students toward professional graduate careers. He became a branding expert on the faculty at Harvard Business School, where he taught marketing and retailing, chaired PhD thesis committees, helped launch joint PhD degree programs in business economics, and served in administrative capacities for the MBA program. In the late 1990s, he officially represented the United States at the United Nations to speak on how to educate the next generation of socially conscious global leaders.
In the last 20 years, Mark co-founded six organizations, including with his SVN colleagues and 16 students, Net Impact, and has made over 600 speaking visits to business schools on five continents. He served until March 2010 in the Office of the President at Babson College, helping to integrate social values and sustainability into the college. In April 2010, he became the first social entrepreneur to receive the distinguished entrepreneur of the year award, presented at Indiana University, and Babson College was honored as the #1 U.S. college for sustainability education (Bloomberg Business Week).
Mark has been a grand prize and development track judge for many years at the MIT $100K venture competition, where a few years ago his judging group "dinged" Guitar Hero for having no chance to succeed in the marketplace. He has served as a judge for several other business-plan competitions, including most recently the Jay Chiat International Awards for Strategic Excellence in the Social Strategy. Mark also hosted the inaugural and the third SVN Innovation awards and has served as a judge and mentor each year.
Mark is the author of seven books, including the SVN book series title True to Yourself: Leading a Values-Based Business, published for 12 years a 4000-word, service-oriented career counseling monthly e-newsletter and the 3-minute multiple-award winning animated movie (on YouTube), produced with SVN member Free Range Studios, "The Good Life Parable: An MBA Meets a Fisherman." He serves on the boards of Bainbridge Graduate Institute, a pioneer in sustainable business education; Experience Corps, volunteer service for adults over 55; and One Hen, microfinance for children, and remains a devoted member of Social Venture Network, BALLE, Business for Social Responsibility and the Investor's Circle.
