It Means A Lot, Soul Underground & Change the Game, received a Bachelor of Business and Administration specializing in Electronic Media Marketing from George Washington University. In 1998, his team at GWU became American Advertising Federation National Collegiate Champions.
Although recruited by various ad agencies, he moved to Atlanta to capitalize on the growing independent music scene and launch the Atlanta branch of Soul Underground, a live positive entertainment property that he started with his partner Darius Evans in DC in 1997. Optimizing on Mr. Carter's experience in music and media marketing, Rolling Out, a national urban weekly newspaper, retained his services as Music Editor for one year before Burrell Communications recruited him.
While at Burrell, he spearheaded the creation of a special Innovations Unit and pioneered using "guerrilla media." The truth campaign was one of the first to make use of this strategy. He & his team created, programmed, produced & marketed a $1.5 million radio show, truth. FM, a nationally syndicated late night hip-hop & soul radio show. In the fall of 2000, the Innovations Unit comprised of Darius Evans, Shawn Howard, Kembo Tom & Karl Carter, struck out on their own to create GTM... It Means A Lot.
