The Impact of a New Economy
Seeking stories from beyond the shareholder ledger
When it comes to building a sustainable economy through business practices that honor the principles of equality and social justice, no voice or no action is too small to ignore.
The world runs on dollars and cents, however, so large and powerful transcontinental and transnational corporations tend to garner the most attention while the smaller voices telling of currency whose impact is more difficult to measure than money can be hard to hear.
Dollars and cents add up to profits and dividends whereas impacts for world benefit beyond the shareholder ledger represent the new economy that will reshape our communities to create vibrant places to live and thriving hubs of business activity.
These impacts need to be counted and their stories need to be told.
When Social Venture Network (SVN) members gathered with fellow sustainable business leaders in Washington to collaborate with White House administration officials and meet with members of Congress, the impact of sustainable business fell on open ears.
The Business Summit for a Sustainable Economy was organized by the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) and attendees, such as ASBC co-founder David Levine and MaryAnne Howland of Ibis Communications, agree there was a true feeling of collaboration as the Business Call for a New Economy was brought to the attention of policymakers.
In that room was the collective energy of business leaders who’ve created success for themselves and their stakeholders because of their passion to make the world a better place through their work.
The heart of a lobbyist beats loudest in Washington, and the most powerful of businesses, many of which treat social responsibility with mere tokenism, know how that system works.
Independent business operators who are conscious of their footprint can be the shining example of sustainable business and bringing these players together to call attention to their work and their reality will build the momentum of the new economy.
We want to hear from all players, large and small about the impact of sustainable business on the world around them in the new economy. To weigh in and share your story, please contact kristian(at)axiomnews.ca.
