Using Technology to Empower a Community of Changemakers
Elisa Miller-Out, Singlebrook Technology
“Code with Love” refers to the approach that Singlebrook developers take to their craft and to their client relationships. It also refers to the love that drives Singlebrook clients to make a difference in the world through their work.
In its eight years of operation, Singlebrook has benefited from the valuable connections made and strengthened through Social Venture Network. At SVN gatherings, Elisa Miller-Out, CEO of Singlebrook, met and cultivated new clients such as CSRwire, Call2Action, Peeled Snacks, Agora Partnerships and RSF Social Finance.
Because Singlebrook works with clients remotely from all over the country, the in-person connections Elisa makes at SVN gatherings are particularly valuable. Participating in an SVN Peer Circle allowed her to address business challenges she was facing, offer peer support, and deepen relationships with SVN members. She also found Singlebrook’s new Director of Business Development, Jo Opot, through SVN.
Being members of the SVN community has also impacted the way Singlebrook executives strive to make a difference in the world, not only through the clients they work with, but also through their company practices and initiatives. They have a paid-volunteer-time program for the Singlebrook team to give back to the communities they serve. Their free “Drupal for Job Seekers” training gives underemployed workers access to resources for gaining technical skills. Later this year, Singlebroook will be hosting a Hackathon for Social Good.
Singlebrook is a custom web and mobile development firm based in Ithaca, NY. Their mantra—“Code with Love”—is infused in every client partnership, whether it’s building a mobile web app for a social entrepreneur to change the way compost is delivered to urban farms, applying a responsive design to make a nonprofit’s website accessible to mobile users, or implementing a large-scale content management system that lets universities publish resources with ease.
