SVN Chair attends the White House Luncheon for Women and The Environment
Hosted by the Hon. Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Administrator, women on the front line of environmental issues from across the country received a Welcoming Address from Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama and Tina Tchen, Chief of Staff to the First Lady. EPA Chief of Staff Diane Thompson also delivered opening remarks and Heather Zichal, Deputy Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change gave an update on President Obama’s Energy Agenda. Two panels of White House Senior Officials defined priorities and gave an update on activities in various EPA offices. After the presentations, all of the participants engaged in Action Workshops to help define The Way Forward: Women & the Future of Environmental Protection. For information on EPA initiatives, visit www.epa.gov. Just one day after the event, the Wall Street Journal News Alert: The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday proposed strict limits on greenhouse-gas emissions from new power plants, a step toward curtailing one of the largest sources of the emissions linked to climate change. “We got the scoop before the WSJ!”, says Howland. We congratulate Ms. Jackson and her incredible team for keeping the agenda on target and taking aim on the issues that matter most for the country and the world.
